abstract

the study investigates the possibility of sex determination of rainbow trout (oncorhynchus mykiss)using molecular screen for products monosex of populations. 35 caudal fin tissue samples wereobtained from karaj rainbow trout mature population and then genomic dna was extracted andmarker loci amplified. polymerase chain reaction (pcr) was setup based on two omyfa andomyfatu markers for amplification of sex linked markers in rainbow trout. finally, the populationwas screened based on presence of a specific band for both markers. result of this expriments showedthat presence of omyfa and omyfatu markers in males were %100 and %55 respectively. acordingto the result omyfatu is proper marker for screen of karaj trout population.

Rainbow Trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss

Rainbow trout are classified as Oncorhynchus mykiss, and as such belong to the same genus as Pacific salmon, and to the family Salmonidae, which includes Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), various trout (Salvelinus sp.), Arctic char (Salvelinus alpinus), Arctic grayling (Thymallus arcticus) and whitefish (Coregonus sp.). Rainbow trout are native to areas around the North Pacific Ocean, from souther...

Genetic variability of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) cultured in Iran using molecular RAPD markers

In the present study we evaluated the amount and distribution of genetic variation by using RAPD marker variation of 12 markers loci in three broodstock groups of rainbow trout. A total of 47 polymorphic bands were observed in Iranian strain, average number of bands was 10 and average number of polymorphic bands per primer was 3.92. The total detected bands in rainbow trout strain originated fr...

Effect of sex reversal in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss Walbaum) using 17 -methyltestosterone and 11 -hydroxyandrostenedione

The aim of the experiment was to compare the effectiveness of sex reversal in mature female rainbow trout using 17 -methyltestosterone (6 ppm-MT) and 11 -hydroxyandrostenedione (20 ppm-OHA). Hormones were administered with the first exogenous feed for up to 60 days. Among the fish treated with OHA, 95% females were reversed into mature neo-males and 1.6% to bisexual individuals. Among the fish ...

Determination of Protein Synthesis in Rainbow Trout, Oncorhynchus Mykiss, Using a Stable Isotope

It has been suggested (Houlihan, 1991) that the consumption of 1 g of protein in a variety of species of fish stimulates the synthesis of, approximately, an equal amount of protein. Although synthesis of protein may account for as much as 40 % of the whole-animal oxygen consumption (Lyndon et al. 1992), only about 30 % of the synthesized proteins are retained as growth (Houlihan et al. 1988; Ca...

Metabolism in Erythrocytes of the Rainbow Trout Oncorhynchus Mykiss

Experiments were carried out to investigate the relationship between ion exchange and energy metabolism in rainbow trout erythrocytes in vitro. Under resting conditions, the sodium/potassium pump accounts for 20 % of the cellular energy budget. In the presence of the /S-adrenergic agonist isoproterenol, however, this increases to 43 %. Inhibition of the sodium/potassium pump with ouabain result...
